Masquespacio: Exclusive Interview For Our CovetED Magazine

Masquespacio is a renowned creative consultancy established in 2010 by Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse. Their combined expertise in both interior design and marketing allows them to deliver tailored branding and interior solutions through a distinctive approach, resulting in fresh and innovative concepts. We at CovetED had the pleasure of meeting the duo at Casa Decor 2020 in Madrid. Keep reading to discover what caught our attention in their project.

Making their debut at the prestigious Casa Decor, Ana and Christophe shared with us their favorite aspect of the experience. “One of the best memories was the camaraderie among the various interior designers and creators. Each brings their unique style, making the event vibrant and diverse. It also fosters a spirit of sharing and getting to know others in the industry whom you’ve admired for years,” they expressed.

“From the start, we wanted to showcase how a commercial product like ceramics could... So we decided to design a living room that pays tribute to ceramics, incorporating it not just for walls and ceilings, but also for furniture pieces. With touches of velvet and plants, we aimed to make it warmer and more sophisticated.”

Masquespacio presented a space for Roca Tile at Casa Decor, honoring ceramics and their role in interior design and decoration, while paying homage to classical Greco-Roman architecture and surrealist fantasies that evoke timelessness. Titled “A Look to the Future from the Past,” the space explores how Roca technology enables ceramics to adapt to various uses, including symbolic furnishings that “observe” us and organic vegetation details, creating a unique environment shaped by its composition and lighting.

The elegance of polished marble's swirling waters, its light-enhancing effects, and reflectivity are replicated in porcelain, offering a broader color palette than natural stone, with luminous finishes like the indigo and cobalt of Marble Nouveau and the ochre-streaked white of Marble Parana.

“Greco-Roman inspiration is evident in the space but brought into the future with a touch of surreal fantasy. We’ve nicknamed the space a ‘ceramic dream,’ a mood board of Roca Tile materials.”

The new Roca Tile collections showcased at Casa Decor are the result of an exclusive trend study, featuring exceptionally bright marbles, solid-colored pieces, patterns, meshes, and tiles offering endless decorative possibilities. These collections allow for coherent aesthetics in integrated spaces and create unique environments.

The space acts as both a stage and an exhibition, with its dreamlike atmosphere and artistic flair, achieved through a variety of textures, formats, colors, and finishes that redefine the use of ceramics as a source of inspiration for interior design and architecture.

“For the Casa Decor exhibition, we must remember that Roca is committed to sustainability, implementing rigorous improvement programs and sustainable practices throughout its production process, aligning with the circular economy to minimize environmental impact, reduce material consumption, and reuse natural resources.”

Casa Decor has not only witnessed but actively participated in the significant evolution of interior design and architecture in Spain, emphasizing and elevating these disciplines while educating the public on the importance of living in functional, aesthetic, healthy, and sustainable environments. Sustainability is a major trend in interior design, and naturally, the duo couldn’t overlook the environment when conceptualizing their project. They highlighted that the products used “have an artisanal process, which inherently means less pollution due to the use of manual production techniques.”

Ana Milena Hernández, the founder and creative director of Masquespacio, is deeply passionate about design and its every facet. For her, design is more than just a profession; it’s a lifestyle that inspires her to pay meticulous attention to every detail in her projects, ensuring the optimal solution for each client while maintaining a distinct brand identity through fresh and innovative ideas.

Christophe Penasse, the co-founder and marketing director of Masquespacio, is passionate about creating novel concepts for clients, placing emphasis on the design and identity of each brand. His love for marketing extends beyond his work at Masquespacio, where he currently serves as chief editor for Blog del Diseño, a design-focused media platform founded by Masquespacio.

This marks the twelfth year that Casa Decor takes place in this elegant Madrid neighborhood, housed this time in a palace from the early 20th century at 21 Velázquez Street. Spanning over 5600 square meters across five floors, the house is renowned for its architectural uniqueness, offering an ideal setting for the 50 participating interior designers to display their imaginative proposals.
