Food residue production of green plastic can reduce production costs

Yu Jian, a Chinese-American biochemical engineer, and a researcher from the Hawaiian Natural Energy Society have successfully developed biodegradable green plastics using food residue residues.

They mix the food residue collected from the restaurant with water into a thick paste and place it in a warm, sealed container for weeks. Anaerobic bacteria then multiply and break down organic molecules in the food. Other bacteria will convert the acid released from the above process into biodegradable green plastic.

The cost of manufacturing this plastic can be reduced by 40%. Compared with general plastics, the manufacturing process is more environmentally friendly. It can be decomposed by bacteria in the mountain environment and can be used to make disposable disposable bottles, cans, films, and even surgery. Utensils and so on.
