A Japanese research team has recently developed a high-performance coating technology that can be used to easily wear a transparent “protective suit†of the order of nanometers to an object. The object is neither afraid of water nor oil.
The research team disperses tiny particles into thin films made of inorganic materials, allowing the object to have a strong “waterproof and oil-proof clothing†with a simple operation. At the same time, the size of the particles in the film is very small, and the bumps on the “protective clothing†are correspondingly small. This has little impact on the light, and “protective clothing†can maintain a high degree of transparency.
The general chemical treatment method is difficult to make the surface of the object can be both waterproof and oil-proof, the physical treatment method forms the unevenness on the surface of the object, resulting in light scattering, affecting the transparency. The new technology, developed jointly by Nippon Oil & Fats Co., Ltd., the Chemical Technology Promotion Organization and Kyushu University, can make nanoprotective clothing very strong and transparent. This technology can be widely applied to the waterproof and oil-repellent treatment of fibers, paper, leather, glass, film and other objects.
The technology will be announced at the International Symposium on Precision Polymer Technology, which opened on December 4th.
