Chemical oxygen demand (COD or CODcr) refers to the amount of oxidant consumed by oxidative decomposition of a reducing substance in water under the action of a strong oxidizing agent under certain strict conditions, expressed in mg/L of oxygen. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) can be used as an indicator to measure the relative content of organic matter in water. It is one of the important indicators for comprehensive assessment of water pollution level and an important project for water quality monitoring. At present, the standard method, that is, the potassium dichromate oxidation method, is generally adopted for the determination of water quality COD, but the method has the disadvantages of cumbersome operation, time consuming, large influence by human factors, and unsuitable for determination of batch water samples. The latest implementation of the industry standard - fast closed digestion spectrophotometry can solve the above problems, but the method shows its limitations when it encounters a sample with abnormal color after water digestion or can not be clarified after centrifugation. In addition, manual titration using an acid burette is limited by the capacity analysis method, and the accuracy and precision of the results vary greatly depending on the operating conditions and proficiency, and the analysis is labor intensive. Therefore, finding a fast, simple, accurate and practical analysis method has attracted great attention. The automatic potentiometric titrator is used instead of the acid burette, and the automatic sample processor is added to realize the automation and batching of the titration analysis, which avoids the error caused by the operator, reduces the workload and improves the analysis work efficiency.
