Software developer, manufacturer, technology (identification, tracking, and management of supply chain assets) Integrator Intermec and Informs, Inc., which provides supply chain management, warehouse management, distribution, format management, barcode, and RFID solutions, jointly developed RFID Product package. The two companies jointly launched this product to help SMEs meet the RFID deployment requirements of retailers and the US Department of Defense.
The RFID package generates and recognizes Gen 2 RFID tags and features an Intermec 751 wireless computer with tag management software from EPC Solutions (integrated with current ERP systems), including an Intermec IP4 handheld portable RFID reader And IF5 fixed reader (used to scan check label information) and a PM4i printer printing RFID readable and bar code labels. The package also includes Intermec's Gen 2 tags, a laptop computer and a Cisco wireless switch.
To generate tags, Intermec laptops transmit customer order information and tag formats to the PM4i printer's real-time RFID print-encoder. The print encoder interprets the information, encodes the information on the RFID tag, and prints it in a bar code or human readable form. The printer's built-in reader scans and checks the tag information before affixing the label to the box or tray. The Inermec 751 is connected to an IP4 portable reader or IF5 fixed reader to recheck the order information and confirm the shipping information. Tag management software can be used as a standalone shipping application that contains data for GTIN and SSCC smart tags.
