On February 5, 2007, DuPont announced significant progress in the development of new high-performance products that reduce the content of PFOA and PFOA to provide sustainable solutions to its customers and society.
For its fluoropolymer products, DuPont announced that it has successfully commercialized a new, patented production process. The process reduces the trace levels of perfluorooctanoic acid and its salts (PFOA), its high-grade chemicals, and its direct front-end chemicals by more than 97%. Although perfluorooctanoic acid and its salts (PFOA) are not used in the production of fluorotelomers, PFOA is a byproduct of the production of fluorotelomer products.
The results of DuPont's new process not only met the US Environmental Protection Agency's voluntary 2010-2015 goal for trace amounts of perfluorooctanoic acid and its salt environment program, but also achieved its target three years in advance. The new LX platform products will be available to customers starting from the first quarter of this year. LX platform products will be used in the field of surface protection, including paper packaging, fluorosurfactants and coatings, leather, stone and tile.
