The test begins with a preliminary inspection of the two lighting or optical signal devices. Before and after the light distribution performance test, the sample must be evaluated under controlled conditions. The sample is mounted on the test stand and secured according to the loading requirements.
A sodium chloride (NaCl) solution with a mass concentration of 5% ± 0.1% is used, and the pH at 35°C should be between 6.5 and 7.2. The test chamber is maintained at a temperature of 35°C ± 2°C, and the salt spray settling rate should be within the range of 1.0 to 2.0 mL per hour per 80 cm². The spraying process is continuous throughout the test duration.
During the test, all drain holes or other openings on the sample should be opened. The sample is subjected to a total of 10 cycles, with each cycle consisting of 23 hours of continuous spraying followed by 1 hour of drying. The test should be completed during the drying phase to ensure proper evaluation of the sample's condition.
After the test, the surface of the sample is rinsed with deionized water for 5 minutes and then dried under natural convection conditions. This step helps remove any residual salt and prepares the sample for final inspection.
The results of the test are determined based on whether the sample shows no signs of corrosion and if its light distribution performance complies with the relevant standards. This ensures that the device maintains its functionality and appearance after exposure to a corrosive salt spray environment.
