Belgian organizations call for industry cooperation to create full 3D printed bicycles
"Flame3D", a non-profit 3D printing organization composed of more than 60 companies and research institutes in Flanders, Belgium, has recently completed a high-quality 3D printed bicycle, most of which (frame, handlebar, wheel, chain, GoPro) The camera stand, as well as the glasses behind the seat, etc.) are all 3D printed.
According to Kris Binon, the head of Flame3D, they have two purposes for making this bicycle. The first is to show the power of 3D printing, and the second is to call on all members of the 3D printing industry (including companies, research institutions, etc.) to carry out more. Extensive cooperation rather than single-handedness, because only in this way can the industry be promoted more quickly and steadily. As the bike shows – it contains up to 22 different 3D printed parts, but each is made by a different technology, meaning that it needs to be provided by a different company or research institute.
“ 3D printing technology requires new standards, and its market needs are mature. Therefore, industry members should pay more attention to continuous technology development and innovation, rather than competing with each other,†Binon said.
