Jerzy "Jurek" Kukuczka, born in Poland in 1948. He was missing on October 24, 1989 at 8,200 meters on the southern slope of Lhotse. He competed with Messner, who first boarded a total of 14 peaks of 8000 meters. He finished the game one year later. His feat was that he had made nine new routes, one at a time, five times in the Alps, and four in winter. His strength lies in his perseverance.
