The purchase needs to learn from the new national standard of children's furniture

Since August 2012, China’s first national standard for children’s furniture, the General Technical Conditions for Children’s Furniture, has been implemented. For the furniture used by children aged 3-14, there is a national standard that distinguishes it from adult furniture, and the domestic children’s furniture market. It started a lot of commotion. Merchants have the opportunity to publicize, but also have the opportunity to make a fuss.

More than four months have passed, and the implementation of the “new national standard” in various regions. Through understanding the different domestic famous brand children's furniture stores in different regions, it is found that although the sales personnel have a certain understanding of the new national standard, they are not comprehensive. Little is known about the new national standard when purchasing children's furniture, and some stores still have substandard old products for sale. According to the survey, many brands have started to raise prices in line with the new national standard. On the contrary, those international brands have not changed much in price. For example, a famous Danish international brand has imported more stringent standards. Therefore, the introduction of the new national standard has not had any impact on it.

In order to enable consumers to choose children's furniture more rationally, the following three standards, consumers can learn from the purchase of products:

Prevent furniture from colliding injuries to children

Children's furniture products should not have dangerous sharp edges and tips. The outer corners can be touched at a height of 1600mm below the ground. The corners and edges must be rounded or chamfered. If there are dangerous protrusions, a protective cap or cover should be added to protect them. .

Prevent children from entering the interior of the furniture and causing airtight injuries

In order to prevent children from hiding in cabinet furniture for too long and suffocating, the standard cabinet-type closed furniture that children are required to use should have a certain ventilation function. Ventilation openings shall be provided as long as the enclosed space is continuously greater than 0.03 cubic meters and the interior dimensions are greater than 150 mm. In addition, furniture doors or covers for such furniture should not be equipped with automatic locking devices.

Limits of harmful substances in furniture materials

The General Technical Standards for Children's Furniture limits the amount of enamel, arsenic, antimony, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, selenium, etc. on the surface coating of furniture, and increases the standard of four compared to adult furniture. The free formaldehyde in leather and textile fabrics must be less than 30mg/kg (higher than the standard of 75mg/kg for adult furniture) and the use of decomposable aromatic amines (not required for adult furniture standards) is prohibited. In addition, the phthalate in the plastic is also limited to 0.1%.

Furniture fans remind consumers to choose a well-known brand that can be trusted. With one guarantee, they can get more protection for their children.
