The optical pH sensing system of Ocean Optics consists of a fiber optic probe with a pH response patch, a light source, a spectrometer, and software. From clear and light-colored samples such as alcohol and solvents to muddy and light-dense samples such as mud and surface water, indicating material patches and probes can fully optimize the pH monitoring process in various samples and environments. Sensing patches can be used directly on fiber probes, cuvettes and other substrates.

In the context of food, beverage and environmental testing, often colored or cloudy solutions create challenges for pH measurement. The R1000-4 probe design greatly enhances the back reflectivity of the reflective pH patch and improves the signal-to-noise ratio to provide more accurate results. Combining the R1000-4 probe with a marine optical reflective patch enables accurate non-invasive pH measurement. Its uses include beer and wine fermentation monitoring, and lake and river water detection.
