Joyce wanted to create a product that combines the functionality of Eyegaze with a standard electric wheelchair. Joyce was diagnosed with MND as early as 2007, when doctors estimated he could live for three years. But eight years later, Joyce is still tenaciously alive, and now the inventor of the plumber has won huge prizes, and he is prepared to use the money to move his family into a bigger house.

Although Joyce does not expect to turn Eyedrivomatic technology into a product, he feels that other wheelchair users can create similar devices themselves based on similar principles. “I doubt if Eyedrivomatic has commercial value.” He admitted: “But its design is more suitable for home manufacture.”
