How to Protect High Value Electricity Goods In A Building Still Under Construction – The Packaging Doctor

How to Safeguard High-Value Electrical Equipment in a Building Under Construction – The Packaging Doctor

By Carl Board • Monday 21st December 2015

With the unpredictable weather we've been experiencing in the UK, it's hard to know what kind of day you'll wake up to. For those working in the construction industry, this can be especially challenging, as weather conditions can significantly impact project timelines and the safety of materials on site.

One of the biggest concerns is protecting high-value items that are stored inside a building still under construction. These items are often placed before windows, doors, and walls are fully installed, making them vulnerable to rain, dust, and moisture. That’s why it's crucial to ensure these goods are properly sealed and protected from the elements.

Today, I’m sharing a real-life case where a customer reached out for advice on how to protect large electrical units during the early stages of construction. Here’s how I helped them find the right solution:

Dear Doctor,

I hope you can help. We're currently working on a building that’s still under construction and not yet water-tight. There are no windows or doors, and some walls are still being built. We have several large electrical units that need to be installed, and due to their high value, we need to make sure they don’t get damaged.

We’re looking for a reliable product that will provide full protection against weather, dust, and moisture. Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you, Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for reaching out. I completely understand the pressure you're under, and I appreciate your concern about protecting such valuable equipment.

One of the best solutions I would recommend is our Polythene Shrink Film. This heavy-duty shrink film is perfect for wrapping irregularly shaped items, offering both stability and a tight, protective seal. To use it effectively, you’ll need our Pro Shrink Pallet Heat Shrink Gun, which allows the film to shrink tightly around the product, creating a rigid and secure barrier. It’s also puncture-resistant and made from virgin polyethylene, ensuring even and consistent shrinking when heated.

In addition to the shrink film, I’d suggest using our Gas Cylinder Trolley. This compact and durable trolley comes with heavy-duty rubber wheels and is designed to carry a propane gas bottle along with the heat shrink gun. It makes it easy to move the equipment around the site, improving efficiency and safety during the packaging process.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out.

Best Wishes, The Packaging Doctor
