Homopolymeric propylene-based elastomers for food packaging

Mitsui Chemical Co., Ltd. of Japan introduced a series of propylene-based elastomers. The grade is Tafmer XM, highly homogenized, making it suitable for use as a resin modifier for food packaging applications. When blended with PP for thermal bonding of PP films, the heat sealing temperature is 20 °C lower than the original propylene-based Tafmer. Another advantage of this material is its anti-adhesion that prevents blocking during film storage and transportation. Tafmer uses a traditional Ziegler catalyst, while Tafmer XM uses a proprietary metallocene catalyst.
