Russian scientists use lasers to synthesize magnetic particles for the first time in the world

Russian scientists used lasers to synthesize iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles for the first time. There are two traditional methods for preparing iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles: dry method and wet method. The laser synthesis method used by scientists at the Institute of Electronic Physics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is currently the most advanced method for preparing iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles.

Iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles can be widely used in environmental treatment, bioceramics, and targeted drug delivery, and have very good application prospects, but the premise is that an effective preparation method of iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles must be found. Scientists at the institute used a laser to evaporate common commercial non-magnetic iron oxide powder cake, then condensed the steam using dry gas (air and argon were used in the experiment), and then passed the condensed steam through different filter elements. Scientists have obtained the best synthesis method by using different gases and gas pressures, adjusting the flow rate, etc., which has roughly doubled the output of nanoparticles and reduced the laser energy consumption by 85% compared to the original preparation method.
