GLS Group, the world's leading producer of high-performance thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), has introduced a new TPE alloy process that enables the new TPE materials to have excellent barrier properties. The new TPE material can be applied to food and beverage bottles, including beverage bottles, soft food packaging films, and storage containers for other products.
According to GLS spokesperson Walter Ripple, the Global Sales and Marketing Director said, “A lot of our customers are looking for TPE materials with barrier properties that are not available in many TPE materials. The GLS Group recently launched A very complex TPE synthesis process, so that the new TPE material can meet the needs of high barrier properties. This technology will be applied worldwide."
The key advantage of this new process is the ability to block the diffusion of oxygen and water vapor. The newly introduced TPE alloy has an oxygen permeability coefficient of 2,000 to 20,000. The standard TPE oxygen permeability coefficient is 50,000 to 90,000. With this new technology, barrier properties are 2 to 5 times higher than conventional TPE materials.
